Austin Access Awards

Nomination Form

The purpose of the Austin Access Awards is to promote and recognize outstanding businesses and places of public accommodation for their demonstrated commitment to the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act and welcoming of all individuals regardless of ability.

Award Criteria

Nominees for the Austin Access Awards may be a business, church or place of worship or any non-residential place of public accommodation with a physical presence in the City of Austin. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) a place of public accommodation may include private establishments such as restaurants, hotels, theaters, convention centers, retail stores, shopping centers, dry cleaners, laundromats, pharmacies, doctors' offices, hospitals, museums, libraries, parks, zoos, amusement parks, private schools, day care centers, health spas, and bowling alleys.

Recipients of the Austin Access Award should demonstrate a welcoming, inclusive attitude towards customers with disabilities. The physical environment of the business location or facility should meet or exceed all Texas Accessibility Standards. Additional consideration is given to businesses and organizations that demonstrate positive hiring practices in employing individuals with disabilities. The Access Awards Committee will evaluate the nominated facility to substantiate the nomination.

Telephones (Height, volume control, TTY equipped)

Emergency Egress (Flashing lights and audible signals)

Products/Services (Sign Language interpreting, disability awareness training, closed captioned TV, accessible web site)
