Benefits
Besides the expedited review and fee waivers offered to developers, S.M.A.R.T. Housing provides for several benefits to our community. They include:
- S.M.A.R.T. (Safe, Mixed-Income, Accessible, Reasonably-Priced, Transit Oriented) housing development
- Increased production of housing for low and moderate-income residents of Austin.
- Designates the Austin Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) as lead agency for the production of S.M.A.R.T. housing units
- Designates NHCD as lead agency on housing policy issues and single point of contact for S.M.A.R.T. Housing developments
- Provides AHFC with first acceptance of any surplus City property
- Allows for full or partial fee waivers for S.M.A.R.T. Housing projects
