TAKE THE CAPITOL METRO BUS to Rosewood and Chicon: Take the 21, 2, or 22 to Rosewood and Chicon. Walk one block north on Chicon to S.L. Davis and make a right.
6:00 PM Aly Winningham of Terra Firma Studio will give a tour of her metal and mosaics studio and demonstrate her mosaic technique. She will speak about her obelisco art design for the E. 7th Street Corridor Obelisco AIPP Project and answer questions about her experience with public art.
6:45 PM Nailah I. Akinyémi-Sankofa of DESIGN WORKS! studios will demonstrate and talk about her painting process and approach to her Afrikan-inspired works; as well as how Afrikan ancestral tradition informed her design for her obelisco commission.
Also on display will be the artwork designs for the East 7th Street Corridor Obelisco AIPP Project by commissioned artists Maggie DeSanto, Martin Garcia, Claudia Reese, Alonso Rey Sanchez and Susan Wallace.

TAKE THE CAPITOL METRO BUS to Springdale and Cesar Chavez: Take the #4 to Springdale and 7th, walk two blocks south.
6:00 PM Hawkeye and Lizzie will discuss and demonstrate the different tools that make up a modern metal working studio. The demonstration will include shaping and hand forging with a power hammer, and precision metal working using a mill and lathe. A few participants will have an opportunity to try working the lathe! Also on display will be their design for the Susanna Dickinson House AIPP Project.
6:45 PM Chris Levack will talk about his commission to create art for the BMX/Skate Park AIPP Project. He will discuss his design/fabrication process and show his model for “Steel Wave”, a skate-able steel sculpture and “Trilobite”, a shade structure for the park.

Temporary Public Art: Talk and Tunes

at the Mexican-American Cultural Center (600 River Street)
The City of Austin’s Art in Public Places (AIPP) Program proudly announces Temporary Public Art: Talk and Tunes, an upcoming panel discussion with the artists who have created temporary public artwork through Art in Public Places and the Texas Biennial. This informative and festive event will take place on Friday, April 24th at 8 pm, at the Mexican-American Cultural Center (600 River Street). Risa Puleo, Art in Public Places Panelist and Assistant Curator of American and Contemporary Art for the Blanton Museum, will serve as the discussion moderator. An after-party, featuring a live performance by Rodeo HoHo, fronted by San Antonio artist, Ken Little (creator of "Homeland Security" near Butler Park, and pictured below), will cap off the night. Meet the Public Artist for the Mexican-American Cultural Center (MACC) Phase 1A

Art In Public Places Panel Meetings (updated 12/08)
Unless otherwise noted, meetings are generally held at 6 pm on the first Monday of each month, in Room 2016 of City Hall, at 301 W. Second Street. Parking validation is available. Meetings are currently scheduled for the following dates in 2009:
