(Programming at times may not playback due to technical problems. All programming will have a chance to air again later in the evening or by the following day. Times may change without prior notice.)

The Channel 6 schedule is based on specific days within a month - 1st Monday of the month, 2nd Wednesday, 3rd Friday, etc. - this is how City meetings are set, and how we base our daily production and programming schedule.

The Cable Channel 6 weekly program schedule is updated and published throughout the week.

City Council Meetings Responsibilities

Channel 6 was created in 1985 to televise gavel-to-gavel coverage of Austin City Council meetings. The City Council meets on Thursdays at 10:00 am. Each meeting is shown live, closed captioned, streamed on the internet, recorded and replayed on weekends on channel 6. VHS and DVD copies are available at the Austin History Center (AHC) for viewing and copying. Call 974-7480 for more information from Library staff.

The closed caption transcripts from each Council meeting are also posted at www.ci.austin.tx.us/council/transcripts.htm.

Control Room

We have a studio with two control boards in it. There is one to work with whatever is showing on Channel 6 and being shown on the screens in the lobby. The other is an auxiliary board to manage editing without disturbing the Channel 6 broadcasts.

When the new City Hall was built, video screens were installed in the Lobby. Consequently, visitors to the Lobby can watch what is programmed to spool through (a taped interview with the architect of the City Hall and the video compilation of "Faces of Austin"). Or the viewer can select from 30 different videos from City of Austin programs and Initiatives to watch. There are chairs and tables around the screen. Click on the image to see a larger view of it.
