Austin is a high-tech, wired city, and City Hall takes no exception to this image. The state-of-the-art technology features are designed to promote public interaction and involvement with Austin’s government. Some of those features include:
- Advanced communications technologies for those needing to present issues or view proceedings at City Council meetings, including sound, lighting and computer systems.
- Free public WiFi wireless internet access throughout the building.
- Broadcast, sound and lighting equipment for Channel 6.
- Video screens are integrated into the atrium walls for visitors to watch live broadcasts or Channel 6. The screens also feature touch pads for visitors to select one of 30 "Faces of Austin" videos created by local filmmakers.

Channel 6
The Channel 6 studio is on the first floor of City Hall with two control boards, one for the broadcast and one for editing.
The Channel 6 crew televises gavel-to-gavel coverage of Austin City Council meetings live and closed captioned on cable Channel 6 and simultaneously streamed on the internet. Channel 6 also broadcasts special-called Council meetings, public hearings, news conferences, Live From The Plaza concerts, and special events sponsored by Council Members or the City Manager.
