About the Process: Implementation
What Happens Over the Next Two Years
This is a big process! We have two years to lay out a vision for what we want Austin to be in the future and choose what path we take to get there. To make it manageable, we've broken it down into three phases.
Implementation of the Comprehensive Plan
Creating and adopting a Comprehensive Plan is only the first step to making a better future for Austin. Any plan needs a way to get off the shelf and into daily life.
The planning process will include a strategic focus on implementation, culminating in formulation of a realistic action agenda and benchmarks to measure progress in achieving the Vision. To support this key outcome, the process will engage community stakeholders in the public, private, nonprofit, and institutional sectors first to help frame the issues within realistic fiscal and regulatory constraints, to obtain buy-in on proposed solutions, and ultimately to leverage and mobilize resources for action through partnerships.
The basic tools for Comprehensive Plan implementation are:
- Regulatory changes
- Capital improvement spending (for example the Great Streets improvement to Cesar Chavez Street along Lady Bird Lake)
- Direct spending for other things
- Other city policies
