About the Process: Phase One
What Happens Over the Next Two Years
This is a big process! We have two years to lay out a vision for what we want Austin to be in the future and choose what path we take to get there. To make it manageable, we've broken it down into three phases.

Phase 1: Plan Kickoff - COMPLETE!
(August-October 2009)
Designing the process
Over an approximately four-week period, an initial exercise was conducted to scope and prepare the organizational design and public Participation Plan. The Participation Plan addresses roles and responsibilities and venues for public outreach and involvement.
Beginning the process
Over a second four-week period, the Participation Plan was reviewed by the public, Planning Commission, and City Council and a public Open House was held, kicking off the process. A plan name and logo was developed, and the consultant began issue identification.
Beginning to engage the public
Immediately after the plan process began, staff began public engagement, presenting and explaining the Plan to the people of Austin, by going out to public events and launching a Speakers Bureau. This will last throughout the life of the project, tailored to each phase, so that citizens can join in the discussion at any point.
