Who's Involved? The Public
The Comprehensive Planning process should and will involve people from all walks of life - regular folks, organized advocates, and people from nearby and overlapping jurisdictions will all play a part in the process over the next two years.

The Public - That's You!
Members of the community are asked to engage in civil discourse about issues that affect current reality and dictate what Austin will be in the future. Citizens include:
- Austin's business & corporate communities
- Austin non-profit & advocacy communities
As participants, you are asked to:
- Communicate your interests,
- Listen to diverse viewpoints,
- Understand constraints and trade-offs, &
- Help in defining common ground.
Most of all, you should bring Austin's enthusiasm, vibrancy, and openness into the process.

Levels of Participation
Everyone has different levels of interest and different lifestyles, so everyone will participate in a different yet always valuable way. The process will be mindful of the amount of time that different members of the community can commit to the process, and welcome whatever time you can give. In general, participants will fall into one of these three categories:
Dedicated participants
You are a member of the public who is dedicated to close involvement throughout the planning process. Dedicated participants attend all (or most) major participation opportunities, are likely to be active on the project website, and are the most likely to attend a Planning Commission, Comprehensive Plan Citizen Advisory Task Force, or City Council meeting.
Occasional participants
You are a member of the public who is committed to the process, but limit yourself primarily to the major avenues for participation. You attend most of the Community Forums, stay abreast of the process online or at the library, and may even attend a few outside meetings.
Infrequent participants
You don't have much time, but are nevertheless able to attend one or two Community Forums. Your participation is crucial, because you are likely to come from hard-to-reach communities without the time or ability to participate frequently.
