O. Henry Museum Restoration

Summary

This project will provide PARD with a Preservation Plan for the home of William Sydney Porter located at 409 E. 5th Street. This plan will address reasonable options for building use and recommend a continuing maintenance schedule. This project will also provide for the O. Henry Museum Restoration - Phase I, which which reached substantial completion in November 1995.

Status

The five sets of shutters were installed on October 30, 1996, and approved on November 7. The contractor has submitted for final payment.

Issues

Five sets of new shutters were installed by the general contractor on the house on June 14. All five sets were rejected because they did not match the existing historical shutters. Surety must provide shutters that match the existing historical shutters.

Description

The scope of work for the O. Henry Museum Restoration - Phase I included restoration of the building exterior, removal, treatment and replacement of wood borer infested flooring, house leveling, development of handicapped access, and placement of electric service underground. The scope of work for the O. Henry Museum Restoration - Phase II will include restoration of the building interior. The scope of work for the O. Henry Museum Restoration - Phase III will include museum addition. The schedule for Phase II and Phase III have not yet been determined. Phases II and IV have not been funded.
