Block 4 Residential DevelopmentSummaryThe Austin City Council has identified housing as a priority for downtown development. They have directed City staff to study the feasibility of a public-private partnership with AMLI Residential Properties Trust, for residential mixed-use development at the Block 4 site owned by the City and the privately held Block 20 (see map).
StatusOn January 22, 1998, the City Council approved the signing of a letter of intent between the City of Austin and AMLI, and Third & Colorado, L.L.C. On May 29 AMLI and Third & Colorado, L.L.C. signed a ground lease agreement for Block 20.AMLI has been conducting environmental, geotechnical, and market studies, and is continuing to develop and refine site plans and building designs. DescriptionThird & Colorado, L.L.C. has been in the process of developing a residential mixed-use project on Block 20 downtown. They were approached by the City about the feasibility of doubling the size of the project by including the City-owned Block 4 directly to the south.On November 6 the City Council approved a resolution directing the City Manager to develop a letter of intent outlining a public-private joint venture for redeveloping the City's Block 4 and the privately held Block 20 into a mixed-use residential project.
