Scattered Cooperative Infill Housing Program (SCIP II)
Summary
SCIP II is designed to redevelop an area between East 11th and 12th Streets and Branch and Navasota Streets into a revitalized residential community through the construction of 100 affordable housing units for low and moderate income families. The project is being implemented by the Anderson Community Development Corporation (ACDC) with Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME funds. The project consists of 48 rental and 52 homeownership units and will be managed by the ACDC and monitored by the City of Austin Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Office.
Status
The SCIP II project, bounded by E. 12th and Juniper Streets on the north and south, and Branch and Navasota Streets on the east and west, is currently well underway. The City Council previously approved $4,416,000 to revitalize the area in concert with the Austin Revitalization Authority's focus to provide revitalization and economic development along the East 11th and East 12th Street corridors. Construction commenced on five additional home ownership units on Olive Street which will be available for purchase by income qualified individuals or families within the next 60 days. Construction of an additional 10 units is slated to begin within the next 30 days. The units will be available for home ownership and are to be located on the comer of E12th Street and Angelina. NHCDO and PWT staff are coordinating resources to upgrade and relocate stormwater drainage lines in the area. Tentative plans reroute current drainage lines in the SCIP 11 project area, south on Navasota, then proceeding west under Catalpa Street to Branch. Funding, in part, is anticipated to be provided through revenue generated by Bond Elections in November, 1998.
