ADA Curb and Sidewalks - East Austin

Summary
This project includes the construction of curb ramps and sidewalk improvements needed to meet the Department of Public Works and Transportation ADA compliance obligations under the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990. This is one of the bid packages which is being prepared under the general curb ramps and sidewalk project, about which there is already general information on page 20. The curb ramp work in the East Austin area is the 5th such area of Austin where public roadways are being made more accessible. Located in the area of this project are a high number of local and state health centers, the East campus of the State School for the Deaf and a police substation. Due to a large number of school age children, there are 16 public schools and 4 city libraries.
Status
The low bidder for project CS007 is Engineering Micro Research, Inc., in the amount of $148,000. We are now in the process of having the low bidder to execute the contracts.
Description
Curb ramps will be installed where feasible at all intersections where sidewalks exist and continue in a continuous path of travel to the next contiguous intersection. The work includes 186 curb ramps at a variety of locations within the designated area. An additional 80 have been constructed by the Department of Public Works and Transportation, Street and Bridge Division crews. Additionally, the Texas Department of Transportation is also building curb ramps along the frontage roads of I.H. - 35 within the State Right-of-Way.
