Lamar Boulevard Bridge
CIP 825-607-2050
Summary
This project will widen the existing Lamar Boulevard Bridge over Town Lake from 4 lanes to 6 lanes, including modification to the existing railroad bridge and evaluation of options for the adjacent 3rd Street bridge. The bridge itself is within the jurisdiction of the State of Texas.
Status
Preliminary engineering is underway. Collection of data and surveys of existing conditions are complete. Preliminary engineering is scheduled to be completed in November 1995.
Issues
Federal ISTEA "Enhancement" funding has been approved for pedestrian/bicycle facilities. TxDOT has expressed that our consultant may design these facilities.
$7.3 million in bonds have been authorized, but not issued, for this project. $638,000 are currently available for design and construction of this project. Additional funding authorization may be required for construction. This will be determined as early as possible in the design phase so that other funding sources can be sought. The bond sale scheduled for this project has been modified, delaying the final bond sale until FY 1999.
The bridge is officially designated as a historic structure. Approval by the State Historic Commission will be required, and is likely to be difficult. They may not issue final approval until the final design is done.
Description
The proposed project will widen South Lamar Boulevard, including the bridge, from Riverside Drive to West 5th Street. It will include modification to the existing railroad bridge and evaluation of the adjacent 3rd Street bridge to determine the need for replacement.
