South 1st Street
Summary
This project will widen S. 1st Street from Riverside Drive to 500' south of Barton Springs Road. Originally these improvements were included in the S. 1st St. Bridge project (TxDOT). The roadway improvements (upgrade from 4 to 6 lanes with intersection improvements) will now be bid as a City project. This project will improve traffic flow and safety.
Status
The design is complete. At the request of the Barton Springs Merchants Association, advertisement has been delayed until construction of Barton Springs Road / S. Lamar Blvd. intersection is complete. Recent requests for redesign of water facilities have been completed. Planning approval of the revisions and preparation of the project manual are complete. Bids were opened on July 27, 1995, and the apparent low bidder is BRH-Garver. The project was scheduled for award by the City Council on September 14, 1995, and construction should start at the end of October, 1995.
