City of Austin’s Night of the Bat

As home to the world’s largest urban bat colony, the City of Austin has adopted the bat as its official animal and host a city-sponsored celebration, “Night of the Bat”, in honor if its furry, fanged friends.

The first Night of the Bat kicks off June 6, 2010 with an inaugural day of family fun including a matinee screening of Batman (1966), guest appearance from original Batman Adam West, the Batmobile, kids games and the band, Band of Heathens, all leading up to the bats flying from the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge. Blue Lapis Light will close the evening with an aerial dance performance on the side of the Hyatt Regency Austin, Downtown on the Lake. The festivities on the bridge are free for the community to enjoy!
