The City of Austin realizes and appreciates the value of the film industry. An economic impact study commissioned in 2004, estimates the total economic impact of film and visual media at nearly $360 million annually.
The City of Austin is working to continually find ways to make Austin the best possible place to live and work if you are involved in film and visual media. Some examples of these efforts are: No fees for right-of-way permits, dedicated City staff to help you with any City-related questions that you have, and various funding and incentive programs.
In addition to these specific City efforts, you will also find useful resources and help from the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau's Austin Film Commission. The Austin Film Commission web site includes information about Austin Studios, regulations and permits, festivals, continuing education, a film directory and film incentive programs.
It is these kinds of efforts that lead MovieMaker Magazine to rank Austin as the #1 City in the U.S. in which to live, work, and make movies in their 2008 annual survey.

Austin Film Industry Discount Card
 The Austin Film Commission, a department of the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau, has developed the "Austin Now Playing" Film Industry Discount Card in cooperation with the City of Austin.
