Mutual Aid Agreements exist with neighboring fire departments throughout Travis County and southern Williamson County pledge assistance during an emergency greater than the resources available within the responsible department. Neighbpring departments supply personnel and equipment as needed, based on availability without placing the responding fire department's territory at risk. This occurs after the responsible fire department arrives on scene, sizes up the situation, and realizes that additional resources beyond the capacity of the responsible fire department are needed; that department also retains jurisdiction and liability for the emergency. Mutual Aid Agreements address the need for additional resources after the responsible fire department has arrived on the scene and begun taking action.
