What is GIS? Geographic Information Systems, a way to store, organize, visualize and analyze data containing a spatial element.  Any data that contains a geographic component can be mapped as real-world scenarios and explored from the desktop.

The City of Austin has been hosting GIS Day events since 1998 with City department booths, presentations, contests, map galleries and live demos.  Visit the City of Austin GIS Day 2008 and 2007 event websites.
