Kinney Avenue, South Austin
Landscape architect Eleanor McKinney has created a beautiful arrangement
of native and adapted plants in front of her south Austin home.
The front lawn of buffalo grass gets mowed only once a year.

Deciduous trees are important to
any green garden, but the shade they give us can be a big obstacle
to gardening. McKinney plants spring flowers that take advantage
of the sunlight available before the leaves bud out.

A metal gate custom-designed
by Lars Stanley leads you into the front yard.

The arching branches of the native beautyberry
become weighted with clusters of purple berries each fall.
