Spring 2003 - 5308
Magdalena, Travis Country
The
Southwest Austin home of gardener Al Janelle features drought
tolerant buffalo grass and native plants, neither of which require
much fertilizer or pesticides to maintain their lush appearance.
The natural stone walkway allows
water to penetrate the surface and stay in the yard rather than
running off into the street.

The varied colors and textures
add character and charm to this landscape.

| The colorful plantings
attract wildlife, such as this butterfly feeding on drought-tolerant
lantana. |
|
The four rain barrels on the
site reduce the need for treated water. This one is attractively
screened by natural matting. |
