| Transplants from
California via New Mexico, Lori Teller and Dave Miller quickly
realized gardening was a bit different here in Central Texas. |
|
|
|
“Even
though we lived here for a number of years the landscaping
part all started when Lori found this table and chairs
at the Austin Fine Arts Festival. Once she got started
the project took on a life of its own”, Dave shared. |

Judy
Walther of Environmental Survey Consulting was hired to
design and install the landscape using plants all native
to the Edwards Plateau. In areas like this where there
was little soil the rock was intentionally exposed and
highlighted with these containers. |

They
are especially proud of the buffalo grass. It was installed
about two years ago and they have never mowed it
or fertilized it. Since they have no irrigation system,
they let it go dormant in the summer. The only “problem” they
have is that the deer like to sleep in it. |

Spending time in the
gardens is more interesting as birds, bees, butterflies
and other wildlife are attracted to the seasonal variations
and blooms provided by the native plants. |
|
|
These
plantings were designed to help slow down water from the
gutters thus reducing erosion. |
|
|
This
bird bath and a water feature near the front door provide
water for wildlife. Lori is not only unexpectedly enjoying
gardening but may even begin to learn about the birds drawn
to her yard. |

The
sun is always shining in the backyard. |

Dave
Miller, Lori Teller & Leena love their very green landscape. |
