| Mary
and Grant Ellis moved here in 2005 from the cold climate
of Minnesota. |
| |
Wanting
to do their part to fit into their new environment, they
removed much of the front turf and added flower beds. |
| |
Interspersed
throughout the yard, you’ll find the color and variety
of our native and adapted plants, including the showy artichoke
plant.
| |
| The
multi-trunked crape myrtle provides interest even when not
blooming. |
| |
| The small, mostly
natural backyard overlooks a wet weather creek. |
| |
The
large patio offers a view to a wide variety of trees that
create a private retreat not far from the city. |
| |
| Mary
and Grant are amazed by the size of the 4’ basil plants,
the 8’ tomatoes, and their herbs that grow all year
long! |
| Their
compost bin just needs a turn a day to provide decomposed
compost quite quickly and helps support their totally organic
garden. |
Not
only are Mary and Grant pleased with what for them seems
like a year-round garden that doesn't get buried in snow,
they are also enjoying the butterflies and hummingbirds
that like to visit their flowering plants. |
