Program Information and Outreach

Vaccine Distribution - In cooperation with the Texas Department of State Health Services and the federal Vaccines For Children (VFC) program, the Immunization Program distributes free vaccines to local physicians. In Travis County, more than 100 doctors participate in the program and vaccinate hundreds of children at no cost. For more information, call 972-5414.
Perinatal Hepatitis B Program - Hepatitis B is an inflammatory liver disease caused by the hepatitis B virus. By state law, this is a reportable disease and pregnant women must be tested for the virus at their first prenatal visit and at delivery. The Perinatal Hepatitis B Program provides hepatitis B vaccine and blood tests for infants born to mothers who carry the virus. Blood testing and hepatitis B vaccine for susceptible sexual and non-sexual household contacts of pregnant women who have the virus are also provided through this program. For more information, call 972-6218.
Immunization Audits and Assessments - The Immunization Program regularly audits immunization records maintained by local health clinics, child care centers, and schools. This important effort helps ensure children receive their vaccinations as required by law. For more information, call 972-5521.
Community Outreach and Education - In an effort to keep the community aware of the importance of immunizations, the Immunization Program participates in local health fairs, provides educational presentations, and mobilizes volunteers to assist with vaccination clinics and other program activities. For more information, call 972-5524.
