MISSION

The mission of the City of Austin's Neighborhood Housing and Community Development (NHCD) is to provide housing, community development, and small business development services to benefit eligible residents so they can have access to livable neighborhoods and increase their opportunities for self-sufficiency.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

To accomplish this mission, NHCD directly administers a variety of programs to serve the community's housing, community development, and economic development needs and provides grant funding to various agencies and non-profit organizations.

The offices of the City of Austin’s Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Department and the Austin Housing Finance Corporation are located in East Austin at:

May 17, 2008
The Austin Revitalization Authority will host a meeting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at Austin City Hall, 301 W. Second St., to discuss the proposed developments on Blocks 16 and 18 of East 11th Street as well as the supporting modifications to the East 11th and 12th Streets Urban Renewal Plan and Neighborhood Conservation Combining District for E. 11th Street. The City of Austin NHCD will continue its community dialogue on affordable housing from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2008. Ken Bacon, Fannie Mae Executive Vice President for Housing and Community Development, will discussion how a community is impacted when affordable housing stock diminishes. Public Hearing on Affordable Housing G.O. Bond Program
The Community Development Commission (CDC) seeks public comment on the affordable housing general obligation bond program on Tuesday, May 13 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at 1000 E. 11th Street. For more information, click here.

Affordable Housing Preservation Study
Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Department releases the Preserving Affordable Housing In Austin: A Platform for Action study. The study is an in-depth assessment by the Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Department (NHCD) of housing affordability in Austin, national trends and best practices. The report includes recommendations as a platform for addressing the challenges in today's housing market and focuses on how to retain affordable housing in our community.     City offers summer Housing Smart class schedule
    The Austin Housing Finance Corporation continues to offer the popular series of Homebuyer Education classes providing homeownership training from pre-purchase and post-purchase classroom instruction to one-on-one counseling for individuals who need information about homeownership.
