Austin Habitat for Humanity Approved to Construct Additional HousingFor Immediate ReleaseApril 24, 2003 Austin, TX: Austin Habitat for Humanity, a local non-profit, received the green light for funding from the Austin Housing Finance Corporation's Board to construct new housing in Austin. With the Board's approval, the Austin Housing Finance Corporation will loan a maximum of $185,000 to Austin Habitat for Humanity to acquire a single tract of land to build new homes in the Montopolis neighborhood. The tract of land will be converted to 11 single-family lots and will eventually become affordable, single-family homes for low and moderate-income first-time homebuyers. The three, four and five-bedroom homes will be sold to families accepted into the Austin Habitat for Humanity program, who earn at, or below 50 percent of the Median Family Income, or about $35,550 for a family of four. All of the homes will meet the City of Austin?s Visitability Ordinance to accommodate persons with mobility impairment and all units will comply with S.M.A.R.T.HousingTM requirements. Austin Habitat for Humanity is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) that traditionally develops affordable housing for low and moderate income families. Austin Habitat for Humanity has been building affordable homes in Austin since 1985, and totals 131 homes in the City of Austin. A large volunteer labor force that includes significant volunteer service by the homebuyer completes the construction of the homes.
