Free Housing Modifications Available for Austin's Elderly and Disabled Community

For Immediate Release
October 31, 2003

Austin, TX: Austin's elderly and mobility-impaired homeowners and renters may receive free assistance to make their residences accessible through the City of Austin and the Austin Housing Finance Corporation's Architectural Barrier Removal Program (ABR). The program modifies or retrofits homes so that recipients may remain in their homes longer and can live with a greater degree of independence.

If interested Austinites meet the following criteria, they may be eligible for assistance: Applicants must be homeowners or renters; applicant must reside within the Austin City Limits; and applicant must prove they are over the age of 62. If an applicant is younger than 62 years old, then, they must provide verification of their long-term or progressive disability from a medical professional.

For more information about the Architectural Barrier Removal Program, visit our website or contact the Austin Housing Finance Corporation at 476-3863.
