To accomplish this mission, NHCD directly administers a variety of programs to serve the community's housing, community development, and economic development needs and provides grant funding to various agencies and non-profit organizations.

Notice of Funding for Non-Profit Organizations
Non-profit organizations working to produce affordable housing in Austin, Texas are encouraged to apply for available funding through the Austin Housing Finance Corporation for the CHDO Operating Expenses Program. The program is designed to provide operating funds based on financial need. The primary objective of the funding is to increase the availability of affordable housing serving low and very low-income persons in Austin, Texas. Draft Action Plan
A DRAFT of the Action Plan has been released for public comment from June 2—July 2. The Action Plan outlines how the City plans to spend the $12 million in federal funds, as well as local dollars, for the fiscal year 2008-09 (October 1, 2008 through September 30, 2009). View the draft action plan.

The Austin Housing Finance Corporation continues to offer the popular series of Homebuyer Education classes providing homeownership training from pre-purchase and post-purchase classroom instruction to one-on-one counseling for individuals who need information about homeownership. Affordable Housing Preservation Study
Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Department releases the Preserving Affordable Housing In Austin: A Platform for Action study. The study is an in-depth assessment by the Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Department (NHCD) of housing affordability in Austin, national trends and best practices. The report includes recommendations as a platform for addressing the challenges in today's housing market and focuses on how to retain affordable housing in our community.
