Land Use/Parcel GIS Inventory
The Neighborhood Planning and Zoning (NPZD) and Watershed Protection and Development Review (WPDR) Departments are building a Geographic Information System (GIS) to store land use data. This GIS will also use parcel numbers so information from the Travis Central Appraisal District can be linked to it. Land use and parcel information will be used in modeling future growth and development alternatives, and currently used to assist planners and the public during to determine where new development can occur, or where services will be needed. WPDR uses the informtaion in watershed and flood plain models, while other departments like Fire and the Water Utility use the information in their long range planning.
Land Use GIS layers exist for years 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2003. Each layer is a historical record of how land was being used at the time - typically October of each year. At present, the inventories are not updated as changes occur due to limited resources and coordination issues within the City and TCAD. The good news is accuracy and areal coverage have increased throughout the years due to improvements in technology and methods.
