Library to forgive children's fines during kickoff for Star Card PAST NEWS ARCHIVE Check between the couch cushions. Look under the bed.
You might be surprised by finding a lost Library book. As the Austin Public Library makes available its Star Card in November for youths 17 and younger, it will sponsor an amnesty week for children with overdue materials. Clean Slate Week for Kids will be Monday, November 15, through Sunday, November 21. It's a chance for youths to get the new Star Card and begin with a clean borrower's record and not owe a thing for the fresh start. The amnesty does not extend to adults who have checked out juvenile materials on their cards. The new Star Card, designed by 12-year-old Lucia Jazayeri, will be offered free to any child or youth who wants one, regardless if they live in the City of Austin or not. Those who already have a Library Card are asked to turn them in for the new one. Austin Public Library believes that to help accomplish its goal of being a place for lifelong learning, each child should have easy access to its facilities and make using a library a habit. The Star Card distribution and the Clean Slate Week for Kids promotion will happen during National Children's Book Week. Special programs are scheduled at various branch library locations during that time. # FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT: Patricia Fraga, (512) 974-7528
