With more than four billion names in over 4,000 databases, Ancestry.Library Edition is a comprehensive online source of information for conducting genealogical research. Census records; birth, marriage, and death records; immigration records; vital and church records; military records; and court, land, and probate records are included.
Popular databases include the U.S. Federal Census from 1790 to 1930, Social Security Death Index, Civil War records, U.S. Public Records Index, American Genealogical-Biographical Index, and slave narratives.

The Biography Resource Center is a comprehensive database of biographical information
on more than one million people throughout history, around the world, and across all
disciplines and subject areas. It combines approximately 330,000 biographies from
respected Gale Group sources with nearly one million biographies from the complete
Marquis Who's Who. The database also includes full-text articles from nearly 250 periodicals. Search for people using name, birth dates, death dates, places, nationality, ethnicity, occupation, or gender. Criteria can be combined to create a custom search.
Britannica Online School Edition

Britannica Online School Edition includes the complete Encyclopædia Britannica Online, as well as Compton's by Britannica for middle school students and Britannica Elementary for elementary school students. Search results include magazine and journal articles from Ebsco. The Britannica Book of the Year covers notable events and people annually back to 1993. The encyclopedias also include videos, timelines, a world atlas, and illustrations including photographs, drawings, maps, and flags.

The Handbook of Texas Online is a multidisciplinary encyclopedia of Texas history, geography, and culture sponsored by the Texas State Historical Association and the General Libraries at UT Austin. It contains over 23,000 articles on people, places, events, historical themes, institutions, and a host of other topic categories.
HeritageQuest Online (ProQuest)

HeritageQuest Online is designed to help amateur and professional genealogists, local historians, and public library patrons to search and use data from the U.S. Federal Censuses from 1790 to 1930, more than 20,000 full-text family and local histories, and PERSI, a subject index of 6,300 local history and genealogy periodicals. The database also includes Revolutionary War pension and bounty-land-warrant application files, as well
as the Freedman’s Bank Records, an important resource for African-American genealogical research. Additionally, there are more than 250 primary-source documents such as tax lists, city directories, and probate records.

A multidisciplinary database, MasterFILE Premier provides full text for nearly 2,000 periodicals and general reference publications with information dating as far back as 1975. Covering virtually every subject area of general interest, MasterFILE Premier includes nearly 500 full-text reference books, including thousands of biographies and primary source documents, as well as an Image Collection of thousands of photos, maps, and flags. This database is updated daily via EBSCOhost.
netLibrary eBooks

netLibrary is a comprehensive collection of online books (eBooks) and resource materials. Using netLibrary, you can access a wide range of materials entirely online. You can search every word in the entire collection, as well as search within a particular eBook. The Texas State Library provides access to thousands of titles. There are also more than 4,000 public domain eBooks that are free to everyone in the Public Collection. You must have an Austin Public Library netLibrary account to access the eBooks remotely. Oxford Reference Online brings together 100 language and subject dictionaries and reference books, including an encyclopedia, into a single cross-searchable web database. Search the whole database or limit your search by subject or by book. Broad subject categories included are general reference, language, science and medicine, humanities and social sciences, and business and professional. The breadth of information contained in Oxford Reference Online allows you to explore words and ideas from a variety of different perspectives at once. Search results can be displayed by relevance, by size of entry, by book title, or alphabetically.

ReferenceUSA Residential Directories (infoUSA)

The ReferenceUSA database contains detailed information on 120 million households.
ReferenceUSA's residential information is compiled from more than 3,900 White Page telephone directories. Each listing appears in the database exactly as it appears in the phone book. Information is available eight to 12 weeks after it appears in the phone book, and the file is processed through U.S. and Canadian National Change of Address records on a monthly basis. Each U.S. residential listing also contains information from the most recent U.S. census, including median household income, median home value, latitude/longitude and percentage of owner-occupied housing.
You may only print or download 50 records at a time in the library and ten records at a time remotely.

full-text periodical articles from Gale's literary, science, history, health, and biographical databases. Search by

The reference databases are provided by the Austin Public Library and TexShare , a program of the Texas State Library & Archives Commission.
