The Children’s Librarians of the Austin Public Library work to connect children and their advocates with books and information through reference and reader’s advisory services as well as our wealth of programs designed for youngsters. Our catalog of programs begins with storytime programs designed for the youngest readers-to-be in our community and their caregivers, and extends to programs such as our Caravans, Read-ins, and book clubs for older children. We strive to instill a love of reading in the children of our community, knowing that early appreciation for books and joy in reading are gifts that will last for a lifetime.
Teen Services is dedicated to providing the best in library services to Austin’s youth, specializing in ages 12-17. We connect books with readers in ways that interest them. Graphic novels, audiobooks, popular titles and other media not yet seen give young readers freedom to find many paths to a love of reading. We provide innovative programming that sparks creativity, encourages connection and empowers young adults to define themselves in communities of common interest. We believe in our role as Teen Services Librarians and the vitality of Public Libraries in bringing together resources of all kinds to inspire Austin’s youth.
The Youth Services Division of the Austin Public Library believes in the importance of outreach services to youth and the adults who serve them. Outreach ambassadors connect children and young adults to free library services and resources. We provide literature-based programs and puppet shows for groups and organizations. Instructional workshops are available on children’s literature, storytelling, puppetry, and emergent literacy for parents and professionals working with young children.
