Mayor For A Day Contest
Speak Out
Are you an Austinite under the age of nineteen? This is your chance to have your voice heard! Write a one to two page essay about what you would do if you were Mayor for a day. Tell us what you think Austin really needs. One winner will be selected from each of these age groups: Elementary School (Kindergarten to grade 5), Middle School (grades 6 - 8), and High School (grades 9 - 12).
Winners will read their essays aloud in front of the Mayor and City Council as well as at the Mayor's Book Club finale event Wednesday, September 28.
Winning essays will be posted on the Mayor's website.
How to Get Involved
Write your essay in any form or style that is comfortable for you and that you feel best expresses your opinions.
- Your essay may be as short as one page or as long as two pages. In order for us to read all entries, please limit your length to no more than two pages.
- Your entry must have your name, age, grade, address, and phone number attached in order to be entered into the Mayor For a Day contest.
- Essays are due on or before September 16, 2005. Essays received after this date will not be accepted into the contest.
- Contest open only to Austin residents.
