September Author Series at the Austin Public Library
On Wednesday, September 19, the Manchaca Road Branch of the Austin Public Library, 5500 Manchaca Road, will host award-winning author Elaine Scott for two special programs. The first program will be at 3:30 p.m., "Spaced out and Tuned In to Books," a children's program in which Scott will bring to life her award-winning book Adventure in Space: The Flight to Fix the Hubble. Later that evening at 7:00 p.m. Scott will present to parents and educators "Tuning In Kids to Nonfiction Books," explaining her methodology on how to motivate kids to read nonfiction. Additionally, she will talk to the audience about the Hubble Space Telescope launching and the eagerly awaited answers to questions that scientists and astronomers have pondered for thousands of years. Where did we come from? How did we get here? Are we alone in our Milky Way galaxy, or could there be life on another planet? But the Hubble did not work as planned and needed repair. Come join this children's author as she presents slides and personal anecdotes from her adventure book.
The second series featuring children's author Joyce Dunbar and illustrator Debi Gliori scheduled on Wednesday, September 26, at 7:00 p.m. at the Yarborough Branch of the Austin Public Library, 2200 Hancock Drivehas been cancelled due to problems with international flights and such because of the recent tragedies. We will try to reschedule at a later date.
