PAST NEWS ARCHIVE Natural Wonders on Display at North Village Branch An exhibit of "Nature's Spheres" (The Geode and Thunder Egg) is on display at the North Village Branch of the Austin Public Library, 2139 W. Anderson Lane, currently through the end of October. The exhibit has several geodes and thunder eggs from various places throughout the world. The public is invited to come and see the display and to find out what a geode and thunder egg look like. According to the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, a thunder egg is a "globular concretion of opal, agate or chalcedony weathered out of tuff or basalt." "While we have enjoyed our previous exhibits of wind-up toys and Beanie Babies, I am sure that our community will enjoy seeing these natural wonders. The role of the library in the North Village area is not just to entertain, but to gently and enjoyably expand the intellectual horizons of our customers and staff. We look forward to having future displays of this type, and are always on the lookout for new and interesting information and artifacts to show our public," said managing librarian Kathleen Kanarski. The exhibit is displayed by Paul and Margaret Good, members of the Austin Gem & Mineral Society. The Austin Gem and Mineral Society is part of SCFMS (The South Central Federation of Mineral Societies). SCFMS is one of seven different regional federations in the US that are members of the AFMS (American Federation of Mineralogical Societies).
