Celebrate Diez y Seis de Septiembre the Oak Hill way

In honor of Mexico's independence from Spain, the Hampton Branch at Oak Hill will bring Mexican culture to the branch on Saturday, September 15, 2001, at 2:00 p.m., with the youth dance troupe Ballet Folklorico Mexikayotl. The Hampton Branch at Oak Hill of the Austin Public Library is located at 5125 Convict Hill Road. Ballet Folklorico Mexikayotl is a children's and young adult performing troupe with the vision to educate and expose the community to the beauty of the many colorful and unique Mexican folk dances. The group will perform center stage at the branch and will bring a glimpse of history and culture of Mexico to Southwest Austin. "Please help us celebrate this multicultural experience—we hope you walk away with a sense of Mexico's traditions through dance," said Susie Waite, Youth Librarian. For more information please call Hampton Branch at Oak Hill, (512) 892-6680.

About Hampton Branch at Oak Hill
The Hampton Branch at Oak Hill opened in 1997 with a book collection of 54,000—the building occupies 8,450 square feet in a beautiful park-like setting. The branch is located in a residential neighborhood, making it easy for people to walk to the library. The branch is one of the busiest and highest circulating branches in the APL system, averaging 25,000 to 30,000 items a month. It offers an average of 19-21 programs for children a month. The storytimes and programs are always well attended. The branch also serves outlying areas such as Dripping Springs, Lakeway, Lago Vista, Buda, and Kyle, as well as others. The meeting room at Hampton Branch holds up to 75 people with a smaller room holding up to 17 people. The collection reflects the needs of the community with a large audio collection of books on tape for adults and children. Features include a large CD music collection, a video collection focusing on PBS-type genres, and books in Spanish and Chinese. The neighborhood supports the branch through generous gifts of donated audio-visual materials, CD racks, benches, and other noticeable contributions to the building. Today, the Hampton Branch at Oak Hill continues to be the busiest branch in the Austin Public Library.
