Puppet Exhibition at the Austin History Center

The Austin History Center will be hosting a special exhibition of puppets November 3, 2001-January 27, 2002. The exhibit, entitled PUPPETS!: From Sock Figures to Sicilian Marionettes, will feature hand-carved wooden marionettes from master puppeteer Don Harms, some amazing puppets from Nancy Renfro Studios and the Hand-To-Mouth Puppet Theatre, two 4-foot marionettes from the Stanley Marcus Collection of the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, and a wonderful collection of figures from puppet shows of the Austin Public Library. These whimsical and intriguing puppets will surely delight young and old alike.

The puppet exhibition will debut in conjunction with Austin Public Library's Storyfest celebration, which is being held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2001 in Wooldridge Park, the Austin History Center, and the John Henry Faulk Central Library. The puppet exhibit will also highlight a variety of seasonal events at the Austin History Center, including the Annual Holiday Open House, which is being held at the Austin History Center from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, 2001.

The free exhibit will be open to the public during regular hours at the Austin History Center: 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday-Thursday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Friday and Saturday; and 12 noon-6 p.m. on Sunday. The Austin History Center is located at 810 Guadalupe Street, adjacent to the John Henry Faulk Central Library, and serves as the local history archive of the Austin Public Library system.
