Trim the Tree at an Historic Austin Treasure

Nearing the end of the first year of the millennium, we can take comfort in the upcoming season of love, peace, and hope. The Austin History Center Association Board of Directors and staff cordially invite their community of supporters and friends to their annual Holiday Open House at the Austin History Center, 810 Guadalupe, on Sunday, December 2, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

In keeping with the holiday spirit and with a renewed sense of purpose in the new year, the History Center will be decorated in the time-honored tradition of togetherness and community. A giant Christmas tree will be decorated with ornaments from around the world (some handcrafted here in Austin), a special exhibition of puppets and marionettes, and an exhibit of model trains operated by AustNtrak. Festivities will include choral music by the students of the Texas Academy of Excellence from 3:00 to 3:20 p.m., followed by the puppet show "On The Bright Side" from the Hand To Mouth Puppet Theatre from 3:30 to 3:55 p.m. Refreshments will be served and historic photographic copy prints, postcards, note cards, maps, and books on Austin history will be sold throughout the two-hour event. Door prizes will be given out including tickets to the AHCA's benefit on December 18th at the State Theater — The Gifts of the Magi, A Musical; Association memberships; and Waterloo Press publications.

The Austin History Center Association has hosted the annual Holiday Open House at the Austin History Center in the handsome historic 1933 Italian Renaissance building since 1984, and this 17-year-old holiday tradition continues to grow more popular in Austin each season.
