Wired for Youth Centers Celebrate Women's History Month with Austin Leaders

On Friday, March 22, 2002 at 4:30 p.m. the Wired for Youth Center at the Carver Branch of the Austin Public Library, 1161 Angelina Street will celebrate with local Austin women who are leaders and role models in the community. In collaboration with the National Women's History Project (NWHP), the Austin Public Library is celebrating Women's History Month by combining a national theme: "Women Sustaining the American Spirit" and a local theme: "Celebration of Women: Cornerstones of our Community." This event will bring together the community in celebration of all women who help pave the way for future generations through work, leadership, and community involvement. It is also an opportunity to open the lines of communication between women and to provide a forum for young people to understand the value of women in our society today. Some of the guests include Representative Dawnna Dukes who will be the keynote speaker. Travis County Sheriff Margo Frasier who in 1996 was named the first female sheriff elected in Travis County. Ana Sisnett, Executive Director for Austin Free-Net, a non-profit corporation providing free, accessible, and convenient public access to Internet resources and emerging technologies in public spaces. Dr. Patricia Morrison a General Surgeon at the Seton Northwest Hospital of Austin. Representatives from the broadcast field; Jenna Cooper anchor of KXAN News 36 Firscast, Miss Kitty, Austin's newest disc jockey on dance radio station Mega 93.3, and Kate Messer a Senior Editor at The Austin Chronicle, among other noteworthy women.

Please join the Austin Public Library Wired for Youth Centers as we celebrate and honor women who have contributed to our past, present, and future. The event is free and the public is invited to attend. For additional information about this event call the WFY Center at Carver Branch (512) 477-8679.
