Oak Springs Branch Presents Ivanho, the Poet

On Thursday, May 16, 2002 at 5:00 p.m. the Oak Springs Branch of the Austin Public Library, 3101 Oak Springs Drive, will host local poet Ivan Miller. Miller released his first collection of poetry on April 12, 2002, entitled Nightdreams and Daymares: Introspection from the Inner City (Blackberry Books). The collection offers a “no holds barred” look at the fears and realities of inner-city life. The collection compiles over thirty poems, broken into three parts, which move readers through poems inspired by the poet’s life, experiences and philosophy about spirituality. Miller says that the title Nightdreams and Daymares “represents the desire to escape the daily struggle and retreat to the fantastic, often utopian worlds of our unimpeded night dreams.”

The event is free and the public is invited to attend.

About Ivan Miller
Miller, who writes and performs under the pseudonym “Ivanho,” is an Asheville, North Carolina native. He believes the word poet is an acronym for Prophet of Eternal Teaching (POET). He says he uses “the craft and every opportunity to exercise [his] gifts as a poet to teach, learn and grow.” Miller was one of the original poets to perform at the Ebony Sun Java House and previously hosted a program at the Heritage House. These days, Miller performs regularly at the Empanada Parlour, Word Jazz, Expressions, Café Mudi, Ruta Maya Coffee House, World Beat and various other poetry venues around Austin, San Antonio and throughout Texas.
