Pre-screening of P.O.V.’s Escuela a Moving Portrait of a Migrant Family at the St. John Branch
On Friday, January, 24 KLRU will host a free preview screening of P.O.V.'s ESCUELA at St. John Branch Library in the St. John's Community Center, 7500 Blessing Avenue, at 6:30 p.m. ESCUELA is a moving portrait of one migrant family’s drive towards a better future. For daughter Liliana who begins high school, this means dealing with the harsh demands of work in the fields, constant travel and endlessly changing schools, as she migrates with her farm-worker family between California, Texas and Mexico.
Following the film, a panel on migrant education will discuss both the educational support for migrant families and the challenges faced by these families.
This event was a collaboration with P.O.V. the acclaimed independent non-fiction film series on PBS.
