Watch the Movie Holes

LouisSacharPicture

After spending the summer reading Holes and discussing it with experts and each other, Mayor’s Book Club participants can meet and chat with the author of the book and screenplay (movie), Louis Sachar. As the finale of this year’s citywide reading campaign, in partnership with the Austin Parks Foundation, the Austin Public Library will present a program with Mayor Will Wynn and Louis Sachar on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at the Republic Square Park at 4th and Guadalupe Street. Music by the Melancholy Ramblers and concessions by the Austin Parks Foundation will be provided. The Friends of the Austin Public Library will be selling both the book and movie of Holes with proceeds benefiting the Austin Public Library. Louis Sachar will be on hand to sign books and DVDs. The movie video release is scheduled for September 23, 2003. A screening of the movie Holes will follow at 8:00 p.m. This is a free family event and the public is invited to attend.

As part of the fall series of “Time Warner Cable Movies in the Park” this program is benefiting the Austin Parks Foundation with special assistance from the Alamo Draft House Cinema.

About the Mayor's Book Club—Keep Austin Reading
In it’s second year the 2003 Mayor’s Book Club has exceeded organizers expectations. Since the launch in April 2003 the book has been checked out almost 5,000 times and over 300 people have participated in group discussions across the city and at area branch libraries. The movie based on the book was released across the Country on April 17 shortly after Austin selected the book as the second title to its annual citywide initiative to “Keep Austin Reading.” The City of Austin and the Austin Public Library would like to thank all of our partners and sponsors of this year’s reading campaign: the University of Texas Humanities Institute, the Austin Public Library Foundation, H-E-B, FOX 7, Tokyo Electron America, Austin American-Statesman, the Austin Chronicle, the Friends of the Austin Public Library, and area bookstores.
