Austin Public Library Librarian Selected by New York Times
Today one of APL’s Wired for Youth Librarian was honored with the 2003 New York Times Librarian Award. A ceremony and reception will be held tonight, Tuesday, December 16, at The Times in New York. At the event Joanna Nigrelli, WFY Librarian at Terrazas and Windsor Park Branch along with 26 other librarians from across the country will be honored with a plaque and a cash prize of $2,500. Today, the New York Times ran a full page advertisement announcing the winners of this most prestigious award.
The Times received nearly 2,000 nominations from 46 states in 2003. The selection committee, chose 27 winners who represent the highest level of public service and contribution to their communities. The Times is honored to acknowledge the work of these individuals and to celebrate their accomplishments.
Joanna was the only librarian from Texas selected and was nominated by two of her students from the Terrazas Branch and the Library Foundation's Executive Director, Margaret Henkels.
