Temporary Carver Branch Closes
Under construction and renovation for over a year the Carver Branch of the Austin Public located in East Austin at 1161 Angelina has been operating temporarily in two portable buildings located at the Kealing Middle School Campus at 1607 Pennsylvania Avenue. In the 1998 City of Austin Bond Election, voters approved the funds to expand the Branch Library to over 15,000 square feet of new and improved Library space.
The temporary Carver Branch Library will close to the public on Monday, March 22, 2004 as the transmission poles carrying all the their voice and data will be removed from the construction path of the Carver Museum and Cultural Center Expansion Project. In addition to the transmission poles being removed, AISD plans to occupy the portable buildings for the Fall Semester, 2004. The school district will need time to renovate the portable buildings so they may serve as classrooms. The newly expanded Carver Branch Library on Angelina Street off East 11th Street is expected to open in October of 2004.
