The Austin Public Library is seeking an interested citizen to serve as the Austin's Lay Representative to Central Texas Library System (CTLS). This voluntary, non-paying position will participate in System meetings and represent the interest of the Austin Public Library in System affairs.

This position is appointed by the Austin City Council on the advice and recommendation of the Library Commission and the Library Director. Service as a Lay representative requires attendance at up to three meetings per year at locations around central Texas. All meetings are held during the regular work week hours Mon-Fri 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Travel expenses are not reimbursed for out-of-city travel required to fulfill the duties of the Lay representative for Austin.

Qualifications for candidates include an interest in and support for public libraries in general and knowledge of public library customers' needs in particular. The successful candidate will engage in advocacy for public libraries at the local, regional, and state levels. Activities include representing the Austin Public Library at CTLS membership meetings, meeting with librarians and citizens to promote library services, and attendance at membership forums. Ability to attend occasional meetings during the week is a must. If you are interested in this position please email or fax a resume to Patricia.fraga@ci.austin.tx.us or at (512) 974-7442 or call (512) 974-7528.

About CTLS
The Central Texas Library System is one of ten library systems in the State of Texas formed by the Library Systems Act passed by the Texas Legislature in the 1970s. CTLS serves a 30-county area which currently has 72 member libraries. Most of the libraries in the system serve small communities (population under 10,000). CTLS serves as a support mechanism for these library systems.
