Mayor’s Book Club Special Event Continues
With a Third Reading: North Austin Stories

We’ve had readings and discussions in south and east Austin—and now the Mayor’s Book Club travels north of the river with a third program titled “North Austin Stories”. Join us on Tuesday, July 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Yarborough Branch of the Austin Public Library, 2200 Hancock Drive. The event will feature readings by five authors of Writing Austin’s Lives: a community portrait, highlighting the history, growth, and change of the area north of the UT campus. The following author's are scheduled to read: Beulah Taylor Cooper (St. John Then and Now), James Scott Bankston (Psychos of Heritage), Joey Segura (When Austin Was the Size of Pflugerville), Aletha Irby (Speak with Owls), and Doshonerique Simms (Working Together in 78752). Copies of the book will be available for sale with proceeds benefiting the Austin History Center (the Austin and Travis County archive). The program is free and the public is invited to attend.

About the Mayor's Book Club
The Austin Public Library, in conjunction with the Mayor’s office, launches its fourth annual citywide reading campaign to develop a community experience through reading and discussion of a shared book. This year we are reading Writing Austin’s Lives as an opportunity to celebrate Austin writers and citizens. In addition to the book discussion groups planned for the fall, and in partnership with the University of Texas Humanities Institute, the Austin Public Library, and the Mayor’s office are planning a range of programs for all ages. The book is now available for check-out at all Library locations and for sale at the Austin History Center, 810 Guadalupe Street, all Library locations and at area bookstores or purchase a copy online at www.ahca-store.com. For more information about the book club and other programs visit www.cityofaustin.org/library or call (512) 974-7400.
