How do you present a puppet show, help kids keep reading during the summer, and
get that treasured book for a couple of bucks, all at the same time?
Come to the Monster Book Sale presented by the Friends of the
Austin Public Library, Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11, at the new Friends
facility!
Each year, scores of book lovers and bargain hunters flock to rummage through
tens of thousands of books, videos, CDs, DVDs, record albums, and computer software being sold in this
annual fundraiser to help the Austin Public Library.
At just $1 to $2 per treasure, past sales have generated as much as $69,000 to
demonstrate the event's success. Money raised by these volunteers fills a variety of worthwhile needs for
the Library system, from funding for the Summer Reading program and Pilot Talk Time Program for New
Immigrants, to the Ruiz Branch Annual Posada, children’s book bins, and much more.
Treasure hunters who can't wait can attend a sneak preview on Friday evening
(September 9) from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. This is a members-only event; memberships and renewals are available
at the door.
The Friends of the Austin Public Library is a nonprofit organization that
provides volunteers and financial support for the Library. The annual book sale is run entirely by
volunteers who work year-round sorting and organizing materials for the sale.
