Austin, TX—This year’s fund raiser for the Austin Public Library Foundation is called “Texas Tales: Pull Up a Chair and Sit a Spell.” Austin-area artists, architects and designers have embellished and/or altered wooden library chairs and created other unique chairs for a silent auction to benefit the Austin Public Library Foundation and Friends of the Austin Public Library.

A preview exhibition of the chairs will be held at Austin City Hall, Sept. 1-9, 2005; with an opening reception and preview party on Thursday, Sept. 1st, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The exhibition and reception will take place on the 1st floor of City Hall, in the future City Hall Store. The entrance to the exhibition space is on 2nd Street, at the southeast corner of 2nd and Guadalupe Streets. The trio Latin at Heart will provide live music for the reception, and refreshments will be provided by 7 restaurant. Tickets to the September 13th Texas Tales fundraiser will be for sale, and the opportunity to pre-bid on chairs will be available. Chairs will be auctioned at the Austin Public Library Foundation's 2005 fund raiser, Texas Tales: Pull Up a Chair and Sit a Spell on September 13.

In addition to the chairs exhibited at City Hall, a selection of chairs created for Texas Tales will be on display at the Scarborough Building, 101 W. 6th St., in the window facing 6th Street and in the lobby display cases. The Scarborough Building display begins on August 22nd and continues through September 12th.
