Teen Read Week@APL
October 16-22, 2005
Teens know the library is a place to go for help with homework and school
projects, but the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) and the Austin Public Library are
encouraging teens to think of the library as a great place for their leisure time, too. During Teen
Read Week, October 16-22, we encourage teens to visit their local school or public library to check
out great books, CDs, DVDs or to log on to the Internet.
Teen Read Week is focused on the importance of teen recreational reading.
Teen Read Week's objectives are to give teens an opportunity to read for the fun of it, allow teens
to select their own reading materials, and to help teens get in the habit of reading regularly and
often.
At the Michael & Susan Dell Wired for Youth Centers at the Austin Public
Library young adults ages 8 to 18 can always find something fun and exciting to do. Below is a list
of upcoming programs to celebrate Teen Read Week@APL:
Monday, October 17
Special Event: Teen Read Week Kick-off Party: Celebrate Teen Read Week! Snacks, trivia, and a drawing
to win free books! Don’t forget to vote for your favorite books!

Read Posters: Create your very own Read poster. You’ve seen them at the library-the posters of
celebrities holding their favorite book. Now you can make your own! Choose from a variety of
backgrounds and fonts. Then we’ll take your picture using a digital camera and insert you into the
picture. Voila! You are the new celebrity at the Library!
