www.cityofaustin.org/library/databases.htm

The end of the year brings with it many activities—holiday shopping, gatherings with family and friends, and planning for the year ahead. Part of that planning might include a review of your finances and investments.  Designed specifically for individual investors, the Morningstar.com Library Edition database includes research on more than 20,000 stocks, mutual funds, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The database also allows you to build and test a portfolio and to take interactive workshops and classes to sharpen your investing skills.

Use the Morningstar.com Library Edition tools described below to start your financial check up!

Screeners:  Zero in on stocks, funds, and ETFs that will boost the value of your portfolio by screening stocks and funds using dozens of criteria.  The new ETF screener narrows the field of more than 500 ETFs to find those that meet specific criteria. Investors can screen ETFs by fund group, Morningstar category, expense ratio, fund family, and performance history, and sort results five different ways.

Reports and Returns:  Morningstar's data reports cover more than 20,000 stocks, mutual funds, and ETFs. View several types of industry returns over a variety of time periods. Returns are updated daily. Index Returns include Morningstar Indexes as well as Domestic Stock, Taxable Bonds, Municipal Bonds, and Foreign Indexes. Industry Returns are available for 129 industries, and Sector Returns are provided for business services, consumer goods, consumer services, energy, financial services, hardware, healthcare, industrial materials, media, software, telecommunications, and utilities. The Mutual Fund Category includes returns for Domestic Stock Funds, Balanced Funds, International Stock Funds, Fixed-Income Funds, and Municipal Bond Funds.

Stock and Mutual Fund Recommendations: Easily determine which stocks, mutual funds and ETFs Morningstar’s analysts recommend. Links in the Screeners area on the home page take investors directly to Morningstar’s highest-rated stocks and fund analyst picks.

Help and Education: See the Investing Centers that offer in-depth guides on five different topics that matter most to today’s investor: retirement planning, college planning, investing during retirement, investing for beginners, and portfolio tips and tricks.. This section also includes a comprehensive User’s Guide, as well as a one-page Quick Guide that investors can print out for easy reference.

Morningstar.com Library Edition provides access to comprehensive, independent investment research.  It is available at all Library locations and from computers anywhere to Austin Public Library cardholders.  Search from your home or your office!
