Looking for the Right Answer? Ask a Librarian!
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no wait, it’s a VAN. Yes, the newest addition to the Austin Public Library delivery van wraps is here. The fourth and final van has been wrapped with the new “Looking for the right answer?” marketing campaign which highlights the Ask a Librarian service.
The Ask a Librarian service allows customers to call, chat, or e-mail with questions concerning Austin information, business addresses, catalog and database searches, current events, famous people, directory assistance, government information, grammar, spelling, definitions, history, geography, science, homework help, internet information, poetry, quotations, TV, film, sports, and more. The service is available Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Sunday, 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. To access the service please call 512-974-7400 (en español 974-3637) or visit www.cityofaustin.org/library and click on Ask a Librarian.
The Austin Public Library has four vans that deliver books and materials to 22 library locations. They also deliver Austin Public Library messages thanks to the hard work of the Marketing and Communications Team, notably Patrick Hughey who designed the van wraps.
Want to know more about Ask a Librarian online services?
The Austin Public Library’s real-time Ask a Librarian online system works in two modes: chat and co-browsing. Chat allows the customers and the librarian to type back and forth in real time. Co-browsing enables the librarian to display web pages from the catalog, the online databases, and the Internet on the customer’s home screen. After a chat session ends, the customer receives an email with a complete transcript and a list of the web addresses of the pages visited. If no one is on duty, the customer is given the option to email a question.
